Geocache Description:

This series is meant to teach people about the different snakes in Iowa.  There are 28 and all very unique. There are 8 caches in this series.

Snakes are a fascinating part of the Midwest's wildlife diversity. Watch them respectfully from a distance and you will learn to appreciate their adaptations and their roles in the natural world.

Milk snakes grow 20 to 60 inches and have smooth and shinyscales and their typical color pattern is alternating bands of red-black-yellow or white-black-red. Some milk snakes have a striking resemblance to Coral and this mimicry likely scares away potential predators. While both milk snakes and Coral snake possess transverse bands of red, black and yellow, common mnemonics can be used to properly distinguish between the deadly Coral snake and the harmless milk snake.
