Geocache Description:

This is a rebirth of the old cache after the catastrophic Boxing Day floods of 2015 which saw the nature reserve under several feet of water.

In 1989 a multi-national company bought a large factory in Shipley that manufactured radiators and oil cooolers. When the company extended its factory for the production of car radiators in 1991, the company made the decision to create a Wildlife Park at the same time, on a piece of land hidden away between the factory extension and the river Aire.

This is a suburban strip of scrub and woodland with a factory on one side and a river, pylons and railway track on the other. Nevertheless, what the careful observer will find here is a selection of native and migrant birds, insects and mammal

108 species of birds have been seen here, together with 11 species of mammals, 25 species of butterfly and 12 species of dragonfly, 208 species of moths. A retained warden and monthly volunteer work parties maintain the park for the benefit of the plants and animals that shelter in it.

Keep a look out for Roe Deer, Short Tailed Field Vole and wood mice.

Please keep to the paths and take care to avoid disturbing the wildlife. In particular, keep away from nesting boxes and other obvious habitat areas, and keep dogs under control.

Thank you to the Wildlife Park warden Steve Warrilow for kind permission to place this geocache in the park.
