Geocache Description:

One of a short trail of caches taking you to the most significant archaeological sites around Bellever

Bellever is situated in the very heart of Dartmoor and encompasses an impressive and well preserved Bronze Age landscape which is well over 3,500 years old. It contains ceremonial and burial sites and a variety of settlements.

This short series of caches takes you on a tour of several of these features, which are all listed as Ancient Monuments. The main caches are multis which have virtual waypoints at many of these features. Mainly, you just have to count the number of stones which make up the stone circles and stone rows, etc and from these you can calculate the final cache coordinates. All the caches are sited away from these Ancient Monuments so that there is absolutely no danger of any interference with them.

All caches placed with the kind permission of the Dartmoor National Park Authority and the Forestry Commission.

The Lakehead Hill cache has 4 virtual stages. The first is at the published coordinates (Stage 1) and the other virtual stages are listed as Stages 2 to Stages 4.

Stage 1 - There is a cairn circle here. How many stones are there in this circle. Be careful - one of them only shows an inch or two above the soil. Answer = AB

Stage 2 - There is a stone row here. How many stones are there in this row. Answer = CD

Stage 3 - There is a cairn circle here. How many stones are there in this circle. Answer = E

Stage 4 - There is a cairn circle here. How many stones are there in this circle. Answer =F

The cache can be found at N 50° 34.(E-D)(B+D)(F/D) W 003° 55.(E-F)(E-A)(B+C)
