So a hostel is shared community experience, just like geocaching. The thing I love about geocaching is that it takes me to wonderful little gems that I probably would not have seen or experienced with out the goal of bagging a cache. I thought that this would be a nice way to share my experience of El Castillo. This TB hostel is located in a wonderful, quiet, non-touristy little pueblo that is welcoming of visitors and has a great deal to offer. Great views of Volcan Arenal, butterfly and reptile zoos, horseback rides to waterfalls, great food in small family sodas (restaurants) and of course, a few geocaches. It takes a little work to get here (a 14 km gravel road that is OK for 2WD vehicles) but it is worth the trip. Pura vida!
Cache is located with the landowner’s permission and he is helping to maintain it. Stop and say hi to Gringo Michael! Cache is a medium sized lock 'n lock and is reachable from the road although going through the gate is easier. If from the road, you will have to reach through the fence. Please make sure lock 'n lock is closed completely to keep it dry in this very wet area.
