Flemington Presbyterian Church was built as a place of worship for members of the Midway Congregational Church. The location enabled them to worship while staying in the Fleming community, escaping the mosquitos during the hot summer months.
William Fleming purchased Gravel Hill in 1815 and he began developing the community, which would later be renamed after him. At first, the locals decided to use a variety of public buildings for worship, but in 1830 a framed church structure was built. Once they outgrew it, they built the present church in 1852. Following the Civil War, Flemington Church broke ties with the Midway Congregational Church and became part of the Presbyterian Church.
The churches continued to have a close relationship, and when Midway Congregational Church became inactive, the bell was placed in the steeple of Flemington Presbyterian Church.
