Landmark/History series.
CACHE: Simple cache. May not be winter friendly. Room to park off the road. GPS was a bit jumpy but this isn't a difficult hide due to the high visibility. I brought you here for the history. It was a well loved location in it's hey day. We all have that party store that was a huge part of our childhood. This was that for many.
HISTORY: Paul Simon owned the store that used to sit here. He had a couple of gas pumps out front. His 2nd wife's name was Della. So many Lapeer residents have fond memories of them and of coming here to return their pop bottles and get candy as a kid, sometimes sitting on the swing while they ate it before they went home. Or to chat with Mr. Simon about anything and everything. There was a doormat that he had that was made up of bottle caps and it was nailed upside down so you could clean your feet as you came in. In the 1970's, the store was robbed and Paul was shot. He survived but was closed on Tuesdays after that, the robbery was on a Tuesday.
