The Riverbend Loop Trail is a .5 mile long pathway leading from the northwest side of Walmart to the northwest corner of Lowes. Built when Walmart went in, it's part of a larger expansion project for Mount Vernon Parks. The trail leads along a 'hedgerow' and retaining wall to a large detention pond teaming with wildlife. The pond is home to many species of birds and as night falls, apparently a million frogs. Deer have been spotted along here, as well as other wildlife. This trail will eventually connect to the Dike Trail along the river, heading east and connecting to the Ted Reep Trail. From the south end, it will border agricultural lands, Pop Gunn Field, and eventually connect to North Lions Park. The Park master plan is to connect all trails and parks to each other in some fashion.
