[IT]Castelfranco Veneto, in dialetto Castéo, è il terzo comune più popoloso della provincia di Treviso.
È un forte posizionato in una zona centrale tra Treviso, Padova, Vicenza, Bassano del Grappa, Cittadella e Montebelluna; una sorta di incrocio, inizialmente colonizzato dal comune di Treviso, tattico per il controllo degli attacchi nemici.
L’insediamento murario della cittadina fu fondato alla fine del 1100 in un terrapieno naturale sulla sponda orientale del fiume Muson. I lavori di fortificazione furono diretti dal conte Schenella di Collalto e, in soli 10 anni, si scavò un fossato che circondava le mura del castello e nel quale vennero deviate le acque di due immissari (acque di risorgiva) del corso d’acqua: l'Avenale ed il Musonello. Lungo le mura erano inizialmente presenti anche sette torri, tra le quali la Torre Civica con il grande orologio sormontato dal leone di San Marco col libro aperto.
Eretto il castello, si insediarono cento famiglie trevigiane di uomini liberi, alle quali furono concessi poderi e case esenti da imposte e gravami, da cui il toponimo Castelfrancho: castello, per l'appunto, "libero" dalle imposte. Il governo era regolato da due consoli, in carica per sedici mesi che amministravano la giustizia civile e criminale nel castello, nelle ‘bastie’ e nei sei borghi: Pieve, Treviso, Asolo, Bassano, Cittadello e Allocco
All’interno delle mura oggi troviamo il Duomo in stile Neoclassico ospitante la Pala del Giorgione, pittore del ‘500 nato proprio in questa città. Sono anche presenti il Teatro Accademico, la Biblioteca Comunale, il Municipio e il Conservatorio Statale di Musica.
All’esterno invece la Piazza Giorgione, in cui si svolge il mercato settimanale, Villa Bolasco, la stazione, il Palazzetto dello Sport, l’Ospedale e la Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pieve.
Per quanto riguarda la vita commerciale della Castelfranco odierna, essa può contare su numerosissimi negozi, ristoranti e bar, ma anche pubs come ad esempio l’Old Bridge, English Way Pub e Ai Due Gatti.

It is a fort positioned in a central area between Treviso, Padua, Vicenza, Bassano del Grappa, Cittadella and Montebelluna; a sort of cross, initially colonized by the city of Treviso, for the tactical control of enemy attacks.
The walls of the town were founded at the end of 1100 in a natural embankment on the east bank of the river Muson. The fortification work was directed by the count Schenella di Collalto and, in just 10 years, was dig a moat surrounding the castle walls and in which the waters of two tributaries (water springs) of the river were diverted: l 'Avenale and Musonello. Outside instead there are Giorgione Square, where is make the weekly market, Villa Bolasco, the station, the Sports Palace, the Hospital and the Church of Santa Maria della Pieve.
As for the commercial life of today's Castelfranco, it can count on plenty of shops, restaurants and bars, but also pubs such as the Old Bridge, Inglese Way Pub and Ai Due Gatti.
