Geocache Description:

The Beatles were an English rock band formed in the 1960s by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The Beatles are widley regarded as the foremost and most influential band of the rock era. Their music is rooted in Skiffle, beat and 50s rock and roll, but they also experimented with pop ballads, indian music, psychedelia and hard rock, they often incorporated classical elements into their music.


Their seventh album Revolver produced tow Singles Eleanor Rigby and Yellow submarine featured Ringo Starr as lead vocals.  The single went to number one on most major chart. It spent four 4 weeks at number 1 and charted for 13 weeks on the british charts.  It won a Ivor Novello Award in 1966 for the highest certified sales of any single in the UK.  The US charts saw it reach a number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and is the most successful Beatles song with Ringo Starr as the lead vocalist.

Intended as a childrens song it received various political and social interpretations.  A 1968 animated film of the same name featured the song as its title song and the soundtrack for the film has been included in the beatles' music catalogue.
