This cache is placed next to Larbert House loch. Larbert House dates from mid 1820's and the private loch formed part of architect David Hamiltons vision to design a mansion house that would match and compliment the splendour of the surrounding countryside.
Within the grounds of Larbert house an abandoned brick-lined tunnel has been found and is thought to link the derelict mansion and ornamental loch which now forms part of the estate of the new Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
A forestry ranger made the discovery while clearing rhododendron bushes on the loch's shore and it is thought the tunnel would have allowed wealthy guests staying at Larbert House 200 years ago to avoid staff on the walk to the loch.
The tunnel was at first thought to be part of a boathouse, which is marked on a first edition Ordnance Survey map of the area.
Although this cache isn't placed near the tunnel entrance, it does offer great views across the loch and up towards the mansion.
A white lady ghost is said to haunt the lochside however I have been unable to find out any more information regarding her story but beware if visiting this cache at night.
There is also a wooden pier which reaches out into the loch which the little cachers will enjoy running onto to feed the ducks.
Parking available within Larbert Hospital carpark but be sure to read the carpark signs to ensure you park in the correct area and avoid any charges.
There are currently some building works going on at the loch with the construction of a Maggie's Centre and also at the Mansion House itself. Access to the loch and ice house is still available with a small diversion around the site but care should be taken as there will occasionally be construction traffic nearby.
Cache is a small clip lock container with room for small swag and TB's.
