The Western Highway is one of two majour rotues, between Melbourne and Adelaide, the other is between Warnambool and Mt Gambiar. It is a majour trade and tourist route. I used to travel thihg Highway twice a day between Stawell and Ararat on the old school bus.
Cache:
- The cache contains a log-book, please make sure you bring a pen
- This cache is a preformed bottle, well hidden by a novelty camoflague
- After parking a short trek is required, about 20m over flat terrain, which is littered fallen branches.
Parking:
I reccomend approaching this cache while driving from Stawell to Horsham. There aren't any opportunities to perform a U-Turn near GZ, and I suggest you don't try to cross the highway on foot. There is enough room to pull off the highway, but there isn't a specified parking space. Children should use the Passenger side doors.
Muggles:
This is a highway, but watch out for the following.
- Police an other emergency vehicles
- Interstate trucks
- Smaller delivery vehicles
- Farm vehicles
- Cars towing caravans
- Council workers in heavy machinary
Other Hazards:
- The highway is well maintained, but take care in wet weather
- Watch out for snakes in warmer weather, use a walking stick to tap the ground
- Watch out for kangaroos, drive appropriately.
