{MHX} The Darkside of Geocaching #1 Mystery Cache

THIS IS A 16 CACHE NIGHT PATH

WELCOME TO THE HEART OF THE

MULHOLLAND HIGHWAY TRAIL

*****This series is placed on "Dirt Mulholland" and is on a well maintained trail. There is no extreme elevation gains and it is 2.3 miles from the 1st cache to the finale as the crow flies. The steepest hill you will encounter will be just getting to this 1st cache and about 600' past the finale it is all downhill. There is amazing city/star lights all along the way & try not to go alone

This trail was designed so there will be no backtracking. You will want to make a car bridge, Please note the two parking areas referenced on this page and the Finale. Do NOT park up by the Nike missle station near the finale for that they lock the gates at dusk. Park down by Encino Hills Drive, although they lock gates here too so pay attention to all the parking signs at either end. The end of Reseda Blvd is the location for the trailhead parking lot.

Each cache has a reference point & from that spot you will be within {less than} 50 feet in front of Ground Zero. Once you "navigate" to a cache, your GPS will show the reference point. There will be two different colored reflective tacks along the trail, but not along the whole way. The "golden" fireflies are placed for your distraction from the real deal "white" fireflies. The white fireflies have the cache within reaching distance from them.

To get a feel what you are looking for, I decorated a small tree behind the Mulholland Trail sign with these "fireflies" and is located as your "visual" reference point on this cache. The well-seasoned FTFers checked in the 1st cache at 7:57 PM and clocked their Finale at 10:36 PM {{{qbee37, Perplexed Investigator, gsmx2, and zdonb}}}

It would be a good to Google Earth this section before you go just so you have an idea where you are going and where to park. Remember to be careful at #11 for there is a cliff 15' past the cache!! The Heart Geoart is just above the finale. Please bring reflective "white" tacks to freshen up the trail. This is a mini-series within a much bigger one & is meant for the nighttime experience and not for the hides so a throw down is acceptable here.
