The Legend of William Oak - a tragic story of love and greed

Legend has it that many years ago, William Oak, a poor young man. found a Wishing Mound on what is now Hontoon Island, and he climbed to the top and begged for his wish to be granted.  From the heavens fell a beautiful gem, a piece of the brightest star in the sky.  He would use the gem as an offering to a wealthy merchant, whose daughter William was deeply in love with, so that they could marry.  He was so happy that he brought his best friends back with him to the Wishing Mound to celebrate.  Upon seeing the beautiful gem, his friends convinced him to sell the gem instead, and there would be enough money to make him rich beyond his wildest dreams.  He placed the gem in his pocket and began to make plans to sell it.  The stone fell through a hole in his pocket and landed at his feet.  Suddenly, his wish became a curse, and he and his friends were turned into trees.  The brilliance of the beautiul gem was returned to the skies and it became an ordinary rock that can still be found at the feet of William. CONGRATULATIONS TO TheLF FOR FTF!!!
