Geocache Description:

This is a multi that will take you to many of the locations used in the "Stand by Me" movie. It is REQUIRED to complete this passport. Here's a link to better copies

MOVIE LINK this is a 15 min video with movie scenes and current pictures of the movie locations
On 04/28/18 ALL THE COINS HAVE BEEN GIVEN OUT. Thank you to all of you that took the time to travel to Brownsville and complete the STAND BY ME coin challenge. Most of the caches still remain and the challenge can still be completed. There just won't be a coin at the end of your completion. NOTE: GC6K47K "Disappearing RR Blues: Stand by Me" has been archived.

In 1986, Brownsville, Oregon was the location for an early Rob Reiner film called STAND BY ME. The film crew and cast made up of Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’connell, spent several weeks in Brownsville filming various scenes around the downtown area. Many of the buildings in the movie are still there and can be seen as part of a walking tour that the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce has put together.

As this is the 30th anniversary year for the movie, it seemed appropriate that a geocaching tour should be created as part of the celebration. As this is a multi, you will need to visit each of the sets of coordinates listed and match one of the pictures at each location. This will give you the three final numbers for the north coordinates and the final three numbers for the west coordinates. Once you have completed the final set of coordinates, you will be ready to find the cache.

Since this cache is part of the STAND BY ME 30th ANNIVERSARY COIN CHALLENGE being held in Brownsville on July 23, 2016, be sure you write down the code word found inside the cache container on your coin challenge passport.

All of the coordinates take you to locations that were part of the movie including across the road from this ones final. Most of them don’t look the same as they did for the movie in 1986 but they are still there and for the local residents, very much a part of their local movie history. As you walk around downtown Brownsville, you will find pictures and memorabilia from those weeks with the Hollywood guests.

This multi is the primary geocache for GC6GERW STAND BY ME 30th Anniversary Coin Challenge. It will be referenced in all the real geocaches listed on the challenge passport. Please "WATCH" this geocache for future reference.
