Geocache Description:

Find this entrance to one of the oldest colleges in the state of Texas.

Austin College was first opened in 1849 in Huntsville by the Presbyterian Church. One of the original trustees of the college was none other than General Sam Houston. Eventually the college found its way to Sherman where it resides today as a respected private college specializing in liberal arts and education.

A fountain area nearby behind the church on campus includes bronze plaques that list every person who ever graduated from Austin College!

The historical marker at the cache point contains several interesting points about the school. In order to prove your visit to the cache look at the back of the historical marker. Send the contents of the back of the marker, up to and including the year, to me to confirm your visit. Do not put your answer in your cache log entry, even if encrypted.
