Austin College was first opened in 1849 in Huntsville by the Presbyterian Church. One of the original trustees of the college was none other than General Sam Houston. Eventually the college found its way to Sherman where it resides today as a respected private college specializing in liberal arts and education.
A fountain area nearby behind the church on campus includes bronze plaques that list every person who ever graduated from Austin College!
