Geocache Description:

Learn a bit about the railroad heritage of Denison, Texas.

The Missouri-Kansas-Texas (M-K-T or "Katy") Railroad was formed to connect the Union Pacific Railroad in Missouri to the Gulf of Mexico. It was the first railroad to pass through what was then Indian Territory, now Oklahoma.

The Katy followed an old cattle trail and eventually was expanded to provide service to San Antonio, Wichita Falls and Galveston, among other cities. By 1904 the system had over 1,000 miles of track in Texas.

The cache location stands in front of the old Denison terminal building, which today holds several shops and a railroad museum.

This virtual cache is located in Denison, Texas named for M-K-T Vice President George Denison. The marker we're interested in is not the official state historical marker, but rather the large granite marker near the water fountain.

To confirm your cache find, locate the answer to this question obtainable at the site - who was the engineer of the first train to enter Texas from the north in 1872? Do not include your answer in your log entry, even if encrypted.
