How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed coordinates! You will need to play a Wherigo cartridge to find this cache. The Wherigo cartridge will lead you to not one, but TWO geocaches! The other cache can be found at Gotta Cache 'Em All! Pt. 2: Butterfree. This cache has been published with permission from Sheffield City Council.

Please note that this Wherigo cartridge has not been tested on all GPS devices, so is still in 'beta' testing. It has been tested on certain smartphones. It is recommended that a smartphone app is used to play this cartridge. Any feedback about the cartridge from GPS device users is greatly appreciated. Apps have been developed for a variety of smartphones, but I cannot give specific advice as to do so would be a commercial endorsement. Please get in contact through my profile if this is your first Wherigo and you require help.

Gotta Cache 'Em All!

Pokemon is short for pocket monster. Your task is to find a Pokemon, catch it, and battle it against Misty. Misty is an experienced Pokemon trainer (and cacher) so you will need a good Pokemon to be able to beat her! Once you have won a battle against her, you'll be able to find the geocache. To help you on your journey, you may run into people who can provide you with the tools to find and capture a Pokemon or two.

That's not all however... Misty unfortunately dropped a second geocache container while training a Pokemon. If you're lucky, you might be able to find it as well...

The Geocache

You start your adventure in Weston Park by the Terracotta Column.

This cartridge will lead you to two Wherigo geocaches. If you find both you will be able to log both finds. The cartridge is linear so you will need to find the caches in order. If you are unable to find the first geocache, the cartridge will allow you to continue with your adventure to find the second geocache. Once you have completed the game the cartridge will display a completion code and store the coordinates if you need to return at a later date, although it is recommended you keep a record yourself if this becomes necessary.

This cache is recommended during the day, but is theoretically accessible at all times. The Wherigo is entirely contained within Weston Park, Crookes Valley Park and the Ponderosa, which are all adjacent to each other. You will go near to a lake, so watch yourself and any small children. You'll also need to cross a road a couple of times, so please be careful and consider using the available crossings. The trail is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible due to some steep steps.
