There are 136 merit badges that are designed to help boys learn about many different things. Some of the merit badges are geared toward specific traditional Scouting endeavors, but many of them are offered to simply introduce the Scout to experiences that they normally wouldn't get to try unless they were in Scouts. Some are a lot of work and some are lot of fun, but they’re all designed to help the Scout become a better man. In order to become an Eagle Scout, they need to earn 13 specific Eagle required merit badges plus 8 others of their choosing.
Normally they get to work on cool merit badges like Dentistry, Fish & Wildlife Management, Lifesaving and Cycling. Whenever they get together they can also work on merit badges like Metals Engineering, Fingerprinting, Fire Safety and Environmental Science.
