Tamworth was the first City in Australia to introduce electric street lighting by means of two18kw steam driven Crompton Dynomos.
Electricity was supplied to 52 street lights using 140 Swan Incandescent lamps and 7 Crompton Carbon Arc Lamps. 9th November 1888
It is well worth taking time to visit the Museum. Opening hours are 9am to 1pm Wednesdays to Saturdays.
