Geocache Description:

This is a series based on the ancient Irish townland system and while the places chosen may seem a little random, they all mean something to me.

A 10cm long micro container with log but BYOP. Please return exactly where found and beware of nettles.

The Townland of Tavanagh is in the Parish of Drumcree in the Barony of Oneilland West in The County Of Armagh.
The name probably comes from the Gaelic name 'Tamhnach' which simply means 'A Field'.
It measures 148.11 acres making it the 783rd largest townland in County Armagh.
It is bordered by Annagh, Clownagh, Corcrain, Edenderry and Levaghery.
Features include most of Portadown Town Centre.

Tavanagh has been chosen for many reasons. There was many shopping trips here as kid to the now closed Wellworths and Stewarts supermarkets. Then during the 90s, there was the notorious Portadown car park meetings. So basically anyone with a nice car or a new sound system or a new girlfriend could drive round and round the car park and show them off and if you didn't have any of those, you just parked at the side and watched and chatted to the folks in the car beside. Sounds a bit sad now and it probably was but some good times were had. In more recent years, Tavanagh has been the location of my local church. We moved as a family to Portadown Elim Church in 2012 and have been really blessed to be part of a great family of believers.
