Being an "almost local" now, I can get by with some things others can't. Most important is being able to talk to land owners (or their kids) to get permission to get access to the Trail to place caches instead of making the long hike from a public access point and then back. Depite this, I'm always stuck walking from where ever I park and back, so I've walked more than the entire distance of the OC&E already, and I still haven't got to Beatty. Most of the time, I could chunk things up into 2-3 mile stretches that took an "allowable" amount of time. If I left early enough, I could still be back by the afternoon to help around the house and type up these descriptions.
This stretch didn't work out like that. It was going to be a 8-mile round trip hike to place these caches, and my wife didn't want to drop me and a vehicle off and then hope I made it home. That's where Miller comes in.
I've been pestering him about the Trail and hiding caches, so when he texted me one night that he had the next day off and no ideas where to go... SO, off we went and made quick work of the hides. We double checked coordinates and were generally fairly close to each other's readings. Hope that helps some!
Being almost exclusively a solo cacher/hider, it was nice spending 4 hours talking while we walked. As an added bonus, we bumped into CB&BB just as we were finishing and wound up talking to them for quite some time about my hides and caching in general. What a great day!
Anyway, I got started looking at the OC&E thanks to this archived cache. If you get a chance, you may look for it and find it when I couldn't. It isn't too far from some of my hides along the Trail. I wish I could've found it to keep it going, but...
