Rivière Pilote est la plus grande commune du sud. Son vrai nom provient du grand chef caraïbe " Pilote ".Chassé de sa commune par les colons, il se serait alors installé vers 1640 près de la rivière à qui il donna son nom. Rivière-Pilote fut en 1870 le lieu d'une bataille sanglante entre les nègres marrons et les colons
LE SITE :
En 1705, la création d'une paroisse est autorisée. En 1785 , ce bâtiment fut déclaré insalubre est interdit. En 1818 le nouvel édifice se compose d'une nef de style roman, surmontée d'une charpente qui subsiste jusque dans les années 1950. En 1863, l'église s'enrichit d'un choeur et de deux chapelles latérales et abrite trois autels de marbre de style ogival. En 1877 les murs restés nus, sont lambrissés grâce aux dons des paroissiens. Cet à la fin des années 1950 que l'église est presque totalement reconstruite. Un nouveau clocher est édifié. En 1984, d'importants travaux sont mis en oeuvre par la municipalité: reconstruction de la toiture et complétée d'un nouveau clocher rappelant celui des années 1930.

The hiding place is on the site of this Church in the municipality of Rivière Pilote.
Rivière Pilote is the biggest municipality of the South. Its real name results from the Caribbean big boss "Pilote" . Banished by its municipality by the colonists, it would then have settled down by 1640 near the river to whom it gave its name. Rivière Pilote was in 1870 the place of a bloody battle between the brown Negros and the colonists.
THE SITE :
In 1705, the creation of a parish is authorized. In 1785, this building was declared unhealthy is forbidden.
