I came up to the ridge to get the lonely cache “1W17 Redonda Ridge" - GCGNYK which had not been found in almost 4 years along with my hiking/caching buddy DASHON. We decided to hide a few more caches along the ridge to encourage more people to come out and explore the area.
The cache we were after listed 2 possible motorcycle trailheads but we decided to approach that cache from a different location since we would be hiking. I have not included those two possibilities for access but if you will be riding you can check those out on the cache GCGNYK description, but please be aware this is the most difficult single track trail in the SBNF.
We decided to park where the Pacific Crest Trail and Holcomb Creek cross 3N16. From there follow the PCT west along the creek to the intersection with 1W17 and turn right up the ridge. There is a shortcut off the PCT before the single track intersection which will be evident just before the second stream crossing about 1.4 miles along the PCT. This shortcut will save you two additional stream crossings and 0.7 miles. You will see the single track on the hill in front of you as you approach the second crossing. There are multiple animal trails through the brush up the hill to the single track.
If you do this trail there is very little shade along the route after you leave the PCT so bring plenty of water and respect the critters which call this their home. A USFS Adventure Pass is required to park along 3N16.
