Geocache Description:

You're looking for an emerald colored micro located along the looped 1.5 mile long Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail.

Emerald Spring is actually one of several springs located along the Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail. The water in the spring bubbles up and flows at a constant temperature of about 47° F. The springs here contribute to the beautiful, clean, clear flow of the Scuppernong River, which is a tributary of the Bark River in Jefferson County.

We selected this location for a geocache because of its fantastic over 200 foot long boardwalk and observation deck overlooking the spring. Plus it's fun to see the water gurgling out from the ground below. If you’re lucky you may see all kinds of small mammals and amphibians, as well as many species of wetland birds such as sandhill cranes, herons, mallards, yellow warblers, and belted kingfishers.

See the related web page link above for a 12-page self-guided tour of Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail. Be prepared - mosquitoes can be a nuisance on this trail during the summer months. Wear appropriate clothing and/or use insect repellent.

Here's a trail map to show the cache location:

While you're at it, there were also at last count seven other caches along the Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail. Why not find them all!!?
