Geocache Description:

A quick cache on a lovely footpath

This is the second in a series of caches to be placed on and around the Ford and Etal estates and will be followed by others in the nearby area over the course of the year.

Etal village is a picture postcard spot with a thatched pub, post office tea rooms, 15inch gauge steam railway and ruined castle. The ford across the river Till leads to New Etal but the road on the North side of the river is private. There is plenty of wildlife to be seen including Otters and Herons on the river, and there is a lovely riverside walk starting from the cache site.

Beware of the river, there is an Annoymous verse dating back to the 17thC called 'Two Rivers':

Says Tweed to Till—'Why do you run so still?'
Says Till to Tweed—'Though you run with speed and I run slow, For every man that you drown, I drown two'

The estate, owned by the Joicey family who live at Etal manor, extends to Heatherslaw, Ford, Branxton and the Flodden battlefield.

Please rehide well as it is very close to the footpath!!
