Stiftelsen Det Norske Bibelselskap ble stiftet 26. mai 1816, og stiftelsesmøtet ble den gang avholdt i Oslo Domkirke, som den gang het Vår Frelsers kirke. Og man fikk økonomisk støtte fra den svenske kronprinsregenten og det britiske bibelselskapet for å komme i gang med bibelspredning.
Bibelselskapet er den eldste felleskirkelige organisasjonen i Norge og ble opprettet som del av en bred internasjonal bevegelse som startet i England i 1804. Målet for den bevegelsen som oppsto etter stiftelsen i England var, da som nå, å gjøre Bibelen tilgjengelig for alle som ønsker det.
Cachen er lagt ut like ved Østmarkskapellet som er et skogskapell med sportsgudstjeneste søndager kl 12.00. Søndager er det også kafé med enkel servering fra kl 11.00 til kl 14.00 (stengt under gudstjenesten). Kapellet ligger vakkert til på høyden rett opp for Rundvann i Østmarka – omgitt av furutrær, einer og blåbærlyng. Kapellet har en overnattingsfløy med plass til 25 personer. The foundation of the Norwegian Bible Society was made possible by funds provided by the Crown Prince Regent of Sweeden as well as the British and Foreign Bibel Society, and on the 26th of May 1816, the inaugural meeting took place in the Main Cathedral of Oslo (Oslo Domkirke), then called Our Saviors Church.
The Norwegian Bibele Society is the oldest Norwegian inter-denominational organization, initiated as part of a broad international movement started in England in 1804 with the funding of The British and Foreign Bible Society. The goal of the movement initiated after the English foundation, was to make the Bible accessible to all. The Norwegian Bible Society's vision 200 years after its foundation, is still to make the Bible accessible to all.
This Geocache is placed near by the Østmarkskapellet ("Østmarka" is the eastern part of the great forest areas surrounding the city of Oslo, "kapell" being a chapel or small church), which is a small wooden church where services are held Sundays at 1200. Sundays this chapel also contains a nice café serving light meals between 1100 & 1400 (closed during sermons). The Chapel is beautifully located on top of a small hill right above Rundvann, a small lake in Østmarka, surrounded by big pines, juniper and blueberry bushes.
