Geocache Description:

A simple 2-stage multi-cache in St. Mary's Cemetery.

At Stage 1, you will find the tombstone of the Reverend Father Michael Healy.

Pastor of St. Mary's Parish, Tiffin, Father Healy was ever the faithful and devoted shepherd of his people. When Father Healy came to St. Mary's in 1859, the little parish had a debt of $6,000. He liquidated this in less than four years. Because of a fire in the old building on Madison Street, there was a need for a new school. Father Healy purchased a two-story frame building which was used for twenty years until he purchased a brick building on Franklin Street. When the purchase of a new cemetery became necessary, Father chose five acres on Greenfield Road as the site. As the 1800's came to a close, Father Healy now found there was a great need of a new Church because of the growing number in the parish. He started collecting funds to build a larger Church but passed away before he could realize his dream. Father Healy's successor, Father Conlon, carried out the plans for the building of the new Church on the corner of Clay Street and South Sandusky Street where it currently stands at 85 South Sandusky Street, Tiffin.
