Waterfalls are a major feature of the Ystradfellte region. Sgwd Gwladus is a treat with its wide overhanging ledge and a 12 metre drop. In some water conditions it is possible to cross the river behind the waterfall, if you don't mind getting a bit damp. The rocks are very slippery so take care.
Since the original Sgwd Gwladus cache has been archived the waterfall area has been given SSSI status. The new cache is placed just outside the SSSI area, just off a small footpath that continues upwards from the top of the waterfall and eventually meets the road to Pont Melin Fach. It would make a good circular walk from Pontneddfechan or Pont Melin Fach taking in Scwd Isaf Ddwli and Scwd Uchaf Ddwli.
NOTE: The paths in this area are notoriously dangerous, lives have been lost! Please take care especially in wet weather and near the tops of the waterfalls. Always wear appropriate footwear. Kids should be kept on a tight reign.
You will find a number printed on the inside of the container lid. You will need to make a note of this in order to open the bonus cache.
The cache is placed in woodland managed by Natural Resources Wales (formerly Forestry Commission Wales) with their permission.
