Fiddler’s Green Park is a land conservation area managed by the Town of Dewitt and the non-profit Fiddler’s Green Park Association (http://www.fiddlersgreenpark.org/) and is open to the public. The cache was hidden with the permission of the FGPA. Local boy scouts have created and maintain some of the trails in the park, along with a series of historical signs providing pictures and brief descriptions of the park in days gone by.
The original Fiddler’s Green was a favorite summer resort near the roar of Dunlop falls in a level meadow on the east bank of Butternut Creek, just north of the current park. Even before the Civil War it was a favorite spot for picnics and summer social events, always with a fiddler to lead the dancing, and so got its name. The popularity of the area peaked in 1916.
The current park can be accessed off Solvay Road, which runs between North Street (Jamesville Road) and Seneca Turnpike (Route 173) in the village of Jamesville. There is a lower and an upper parking area, at both ends of the 0.33 mile long main trail. If you have time after finding the cache, make the short walk down the overlook trail that starts near the upper parking lot for two nice views of Butternut Creek.
This cache is located about 15 feet off of a main trail and is hiding in plain sight - it should be an easy find. Please return the cache to the way you found it. Thanks!
Note: I CITO'd the area near the cache, but there is some broken glass and other debris further up the hill. Watch your step, especially if you have children or dogs with you, and CITO if you can.
