This cache takes you to the Historic Shulze Kiln in Decorah. Built by Henry Shulze in 1870 it was one of four kilns in Decorah. Bricks baked in this Kiln were used to make many of the houses and buildings in Decorah. Once the railroad reached Decorah, cheap coal replaced wood that was originally used in the firing process. Economic and physical factors caused a decline in the kiln's use and it ceased to operate in the 1920's.
The only remaining building you see here is the Historic Down Draft Kiln where the bricks were baked. On site signage provides detailed info on the former buildings and process used. The cache here is a pinky sized magnetic micro on the gated entrance to that kiln.
Please be careful removing and replacing so as not to lose the container.
