Fram tills 2001 hade Finspångs kommun ett alpint paradis med två backar vid namn Kolstadsbacken.

Det som fortfarande syns tydligast är gamla backen med den berömda stora "puckeln" mitt i backen som fungerade till ett extremt hopp. Står man där skidliften startade och tittar mot toppen låg gamla backen till väster och nya till höger om liften. Själva liften var en knapplift och köerna kunde bli mycket långa. Även kändisar har varit här och tävlat såsom Pernilla Wiberg, hon sa följande om tävlingen: Jag åkte "Kolstastupet" i Kolstabacken i Finspång på 80-talet. Störtloppet var över på 15 sekunder.

Året1969 Bildades Alpina sektionen och verksamheten flyttades från hoppbackarna på Grosvads området till Kolstadsbacken som färdigställts genom fantastiskt fint arbete. Under många år var Bo Harrysson en sammanhållande länk för verksamheten. På grund av dåliga vintrar under sista delen av 90-talet var antalet åkare så få att man inte längre klarade att hålla backen igång. Sedan 2001 är slalombacken nerlagd och sektionen vilande. Vid årsmötet 31 Mars 2004 lades sektionen ner.
