This is a cache with a view of the drinking trough which is often filled with flowers.
The Stonepound drinking trough was erected in August 1900, as a memorial to Florence A Darby. It was made from granite and was paid for by her mother at a cost of £60. Florence is recorded as living at Knowles Tooth at the time of her death. The inscription is now very faded and hard to read, but it says:
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
FLORENCE A DARBY OF LEAP CASTLE KING'S COUNTY IRELAND
WHO DIED AT HURSTPIERPOINT NOVEMBER 13TH 1895
BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL
King's County was renamed County Offaly in 1922. Leap Castle is known as the most haunted castle in Ireland. The Darby family owned the castle from the mid sixteen century.
This is a magnetic micro cache so please take great care when removing and replacing it. You will need a pen to sign the log.
Congratulations to Martletsman on the First to Find.
