Church Micro 9337… Stratfield Turgis Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Danes Hunter: Due to Arthritis I now can’t open caches, or roll up the logs, so I’ve decided to give up Geocaching.
Therefore reluctantly I have archived all my caches.
Thank you all for 15 years of fun, taking me to some fantastic places that without Geocaching I would never have seen.

Bye!
Danes Hunter

Geocache Description:

The grade II listed All Saints Church RG27 0AT, this church micro is definitely not a cache’n’dash.

The walk from car to church and back again is just under 2 miles.

Situated in a beautiful location beside the Loddon, All Saints has seen better days. Now deconsecrated all of the important items including beautiful stained glass windows and font were moved to St Mary's Hartley Wespall. CM # 4879 GC4XATR However today's church contains many traces of the site's 900 years of history one of which is that the building does not lie on a true east-west line, being slightly oriented to the south. A severe fire in 1792 destroyed the greater part of the church, along with the neighbouring farm buildings and nothing but the bell and font survived. A good job was made of the reconstruction on the old foundations, for, apart from the restoration of the fabric in 1901 and a full interior re-decoration in 1965 few further repairs were carried out up to the deconsecration. Recently a new roof has been installed. and it's worth a trip to see this hidden Hampshire gem.

There is parking in a small layby on the A33,the farmer has clearly marked the foot paths through the fields, please made sure you stick to them, there is no livestock.

When you arrive at the above coordinates you will see the grave of John Mears who died

0A.0B.CDEF

He was the Pad-groom to the Duke of Wellington for GH year’s

The cache is at N 51.C (C+D). D E D W 001. (G-H). (G+H) (A+B) D (checksum 58)

Due to the walk I didn’t think it fair to leave a micro, so you are looking for a lock box with space for a few swaps, the log is inside the film pot, don’t forget your pen.
