Kamanaiki is a ridge that rises up from the middle of Kalihi Valley. This trail piqued my curiosity after heading up to grab GCZ4W1. Being that this trail closely parallels the Lanihuli trail, I had wanted to see if it was possible to reach my caches on Lanihuli from Kamanaiki Ridge. And for the record, yes, it is possible to connect Kamanaiki Ridge to Lanihuli. A tad bit of bushwhacking may be involved.
To reach this cache, however, you need to only follow the Kamanaiki Ridge trail about 3/4 of the way up to a clearing. At the clearing there is a small side trail heading east which will take you down (steep!) to the Kamanaiki Stream. From the clearing you can also continue heading up towards Lanihuli (the "trail" might be difficult to discern) and you will connect to the Lanihuli trail, very close to where my GC4WQV7 Double View cache is placed. It's ironic that I wanted to place a cache at the "end" of Kamanaiki Ridge, but I already have a cache there! If you want to continue up to Double View, please do so at your own risk. As I mentioned before, the "trail" between these two caches may involve a tad bit of bushwhacking. If bushwhacking and steep descents are not on your agenda for the day, then relax at the clearing, look for the large dead tree where you will find your smiley, and enjoy the views from GZ before heading back down the way you came.
