Another school that has succumbed due to the lack of families in the district. It is hard to believe that this was once a special Rural School with over one hundred pupils.
In early 1920's an application for a School was made by three families. On the 14th June 1925, the School was opened as a primary school and attended by Sylvia and Charles Dolphin, Fred Scott's family, and Robert and Rita Wheaton's family. In the late 1930's the school was moved to the present site. Secondary students did schooling through correspondence and were supervised at the school. In early 1960's there were enough students in the district to warrant a Secondary School. An application was made for a Secondary School, and in 1966 the School was officially opened at a Special Rural School. Later secondary students traveled to Streaky Bay once a week for woodwork, home economics, sewing and art. In the 1970's enrollments of 130 students were recorded from Port Kenny and the surrounding districts. In 1980 a new school was built and staff and students moved in in 1981. Enrollments started dropping in the early 1980's and in 1985 Secondary students stopped going to Streaky Bay and started travelling to Elliston. In 1987 the Department re-classified all Special Rural Schools to Area Schools. The Port Kenny Area School closed end of 2015
