La Valle delle Fonti, situata a nord-est di Asciano alle pendici del Monte Faeta, è caratterizzata dall'elevato numero di sorgenti. Queste sono conseguenza del contatto tra uno strato di detriti di spessore massimo di 30 metri, ed il sottostante strato impermeabile. Le acque della zona sono di elevata purezza e durezza molto bassa, e sin dall'epoca medicea sono state utilizzate per l'approvvigionamento idrico della città di Pisa. La zona oggi costituisce un'Area Naturale Protetta di Interesse Locale, dove oltre agli aspetti naturalistici sono molto importanti le testimonianze storico-architettoniche. La cache risale il tratto superiore dell'acquedotto mediceo che dalla Valle delle Fonti porta l'acqua a Pisa (cache GC22MJJ e GC24WVM), a monte dell'abitato di Asciano, dove vi consiglio di parcheggiare.
Recatevi alle coordinate N 43° 45.000 E 010° 28.581. Vi trovate davanti all'antica Casa del Cloratore, oggi restaurata ed utilizzata come foresteria. Sulla porta si trova una targa a proposito, che riporta l'anno e la spesa sostenuta per il restauro. A=anno riportato sulla targa B=centesimi di euro spesi (solo la parte dopo la virgola).
Proseguite lungo lo sterrato fino alle coordinate N 43° 45.045 E 010° 28.680. Vi trovate davanti al Cisternone, un notevole edificio dove le acque delle sorgenti venivano accumulate e filtrate dai detriti quando erano più torbide. L'edificio è in fase di restauro e ospiterà un plastico per descrivere l'acquedotto mediceo. Nella parte superiore della facciata si trova una lapide in latino che parla della costruzione dell'acquedotto all'epoca di Cosimo III de' Medici. C=anno riportato sulla lapide (in numeri romani).
Continuate fino alle coordinate N 43° 45.078 E 010° 28.775. Siete arrivati al bivio per il Mirteto (cache GC6ZHZ5), di cui vi raccomando la visita al ritorno. Qui trovate alcuni cartelli in legno con le indicazioni sentieristiche. Oltre il ponte, su un albero, trovate un segnavia rosso e bianco del sentiero per il Mirteto. D=numero del sentiero per il Mirteto.
Dal bivio proseguite diritto fino alle coordinate N 43° 45.093' E 10° 28.815'. Qui trovate un pannello informativo sulla natura della zona. E=numero di lettere del titolo scritto in rosso.
Proseguite fino alle coordinate N 43° 45.115 E 010° 29.021. Siete ora entrati nella zona delle sorgenti, caratterizzata dalla presenza di numerosi edifici per la captazione delle acque. In particolare vi trovate davanti a una porta che sembra entrare nelle viscere della montagna. F=numero scritto in bianco sulla porta.
Continuate lungo il sentiero fino alle coordinate N 43° 45.200 E 010° 29.183. State passando sopra alcune delle condutture più antiche, e in alcuni tratti il sentiero si confonde con il torrente (attenzione a non scivolare). Potete notare la struttura delle condutture: un tubo metallico, coperto da embrici, e il tutto contenuto in un muretto di cemento e mattoni. Su una delle embrici si leggono chiaramente due nomi, probabilmente di alcuni operai. G=somma del numero di lettere dei due nomi.
A questo punto siete praticamente arrivati alla sorgente Scarpa d'Orlando. Mettetevi comodi che siete stanchi della salita, e bisogna fare due conti per ottenere le coordinate finali:

La cache è una scatola di plastica contenente logbook, matita, rimettetela a posto come l'avete trovata. Occhio ai rovi.
Per tornare ad Asciano, vi consiglio di passare per il Mirteto, il sentiero è meno ripido.
Valle delle Fonti (The Spring Valley), situated north-east from Asciano at the base of Mt. Faeta, is characterised by a high number of springs. They originate from the contact between a layer of debris of less than 30 metres thickness, and the underlying impervious layer. The water of this area has high purity and low hardness, and have been used since the Renaissance to provide water to the city of Pisa. The area is today protected at local level, because of its relevance both at environmental and historical value. The cache will lead you through the upper part of the Medicis' acqueduct which brings the water of Valle delle Fonti to Pisa (caches GC22MJJ and GC24WVM), above the village of Asciano, where I recommend you to park your car.
Go to the coordinates N 43° 45.000 E 010° 28.581. You're standing in front of the former Casa del Cloratore (House of the Regulator), today refurbished and used as lodgings. On the door you will see a plaque about this, with the date and the cost of the project. A=year written on the plaque B=eurocents spent (take only the decimals - two digits).
Keep going along the dirt road until the coordinates N 43° 45.045 E 010° 28.680. You're standing in front of Cisternone (Cistern), a notable building where the spring water was accumulated and filtered from debris when dirty. The building is being restored, and will host a model of the Medicis' acqueduct. In the upper part of the façade there is a plaque in Latin about the construction of the acqueduct under Cosimo III de' Medici. C=year written on the plaque (in Roman numerals).
The next stage is at coordinates N 43° 45.078 E 010° 28.775. You have reached the junction with the path to Mirteto (cache GC6ZHZ5), which I recommend you to visit on the way back. Here there are some wooden signs about the paths. Beyond the bridge, on a tree, you will find a red and white marker for the path to Mirteto. D=numbero of the path to Mirteto.
From the junction walk straight till the coordinates N 43° 45.093' E 10° 28.815'. Here you will find an information panel about the natural features of the area. E=number of letters of the title written in red.
Go straight till the coordinates N 43° 45.115 E 010° 29.021. You are now in the spring areas, and you'll see a lot of buildings to collect the water. In particular, you're in front of a door which appears to lead in the heart of the mountain. F=number written on the door (in white).
Walk uphill along the path until the coordinates N 43° 45.200 E 010° 29.183. You're following some of the earliest piping, and in some parts the path looks like a stream (it may be slippery). Note the structure of the piping: a metal tube, covered by brick tiles, all contained in a concrete/brick wall. On one tile you can clearly read two names, probably of two builders. G=Sum of the number of letters of the two names.
You are now almost at the Scarpa d'Orlando (Roland's Shoe) spring. Take a rest as you're be tired of the climb, and you'll need to calculate the final coordinates:

The cache is a plastic box containing logbook, pencil, put it back as you found it. Mind the thorns.
To go back to Asciano, I suggest to go via Mirteto, as the path is less steep.
