Village Signs - Hurstpierpoint
Village signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the
villages that put them up (normally on the village green!).
Hurstpierpoint is a village in West Sussex approximately 9 miles north of Brighton and situated just outside the South Downs National park.
The name derives from "Herst" the Old English word for wood and "Pierpoint" after the de Pierpont family who arrived with William the Conqueror in 1066.
There is a plaque on the Village Sign: count the number of words on each line:-
A = Number of words on first line
B = Number of words on second line
C = Number of words on third line
D = Number of words on fourth line
E = Number of words on fifth line
F = Number of words on sixth line
The cache can now be found a short walk away at:-
N50 56(A-F)(C+E)(D-F) W000 10.(B+E)(A-D)(A-C).
If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
