Geocache Description:

This multicache will take you on a tour of Signal Mountain, one of the best small towns in America.  Take your time and enjoy the tour (at most of the stops, there is another cache nearby).  The locations will give you a history lesson and numbers to complete the coordinates North AB CD.EFG West HIJ KL.MNO

Phase 1: the posted coordinates will take you to the Charles James Memorial From the Chattanoogan "The financial success of C.E. James, son of a Centenary minister's widow, originally from northeast Tennessee, earned him the title of 'Jay Gould of the South'. With minimal education but extraordinary business savy, he built the first Hales Bar Dam, which brought electricity to Chattanooga. James loved Signal Mountain and was the town's first mayor. Among his other achievements was a trolley line up the mountain (now Highway 127) in 1913 to his Signal Inn. The inn (now Alexian Village), located half way between Chicago or New York and Florida, was the premier place for travelers to stay. Many notable people, including the Rockefellers, visited the inn during its 23 years of operation."

During December, this little park is the home of our little Christmas train, a great photo opportunity for children.  You will need the dates of Mr. James life and the year the memorial was erected.

Phase 2: Just up the road is Adams Square This little square commemorates Adams 30 years of service as Signal Mountain Superintendent.  You will need the dates of Mr. Adams service.

Phase 3:Head up Signal Mountain Road to the World War II Memorial How many service men are listed on the memorial?  What are the dates on the memorial?

Phase 4: As you drive to this phase, please note the original trolley tracks in the middle of the road. You will also pass The Alexian Inn built by Mr. James. Signal Point is part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.  Caution with children in this area as there have been several falls.  There are two signs describing this location's use during the Civil War.  You will need to know the number of miles that the Tennessee River extends. The year of the siege of Chattanooga and the year of Sherman's advance.

Phase 5 Union Chapel or The Little Brown Church At this location you will need to record the dates on the front steps

Phase 6: There is an historical marker at the corner of Taft Highway and Corral Road Learn why this road is named Corral Road.  What is the number on the top of the marker? How many corrals are listed on the sign?

Phase 7: Conner Toll House James C. Conner, the first sheriff of Hamilton County, built the Toll House in 1858. This structure served as a Civil War encampment and a tollgate for Anderson Pike. The toll house is believed to be the oldest structure on Walden's Ridge.  There are several dates listed on the sign, please record them
