Geocache Description:

EPIC = Exploring Pender Island Caching

Though it is mostly cloaked in a thick green coastal rain forest, unfortunately Pender has very few old growth trees left standing. The good news is that the William Walker Trail will take you through a mature forest of fir and cedar to where a short section of giant old growth fir log looms quietly beside the path, offering itself to nurture a new generation of trees, salal, moss and fungi.  Have time to count the rings?

Standing on the trail at the western end of the log, you are looking for what might appear to be the discarded tread of a giant logging truck tire. Look a little closer and you'll see it is actually a half circle of fir bark from the log that used to be attached to the giant specimen before you. The cache is tucked around the corner of the bark. No bushwhacking required. BYOP!
