Este caché se sitúa en los alrededores del "Cementerio Inglés", un camposanto muy bien escondido en la orilla norte del puerto de Mahón.
Con este caché me gustaría rendir un homenaje a los marineros americanos que se desplazaron a Menorca, a principios del siglo XIX, con el objetivo original de combatir a los piratas berberiscos que habían estado atacando sus navíos mercantes en el mar Mediterráneo. Mahón fue la base para el Escuadrón Norteamericano del Mediterráneo durante un periodo de 25 años, desde 1815 a 1840. Asimismo, fue una academia naval donde se formaba la marinería norteamericana con anterioridad a la fundación de la Academia Naval Norteamericana en Annapolis.
34 de estos marineros, así como miembros de sus familias, descansan en paz en este cementerio junto el mar. A pesar de que se pueden otear fácilmente los blancos muros del cementerio desde el mar, llegar a ellos por tierra puede llevar más tiempo del esperado al visitante ocasional que no esté familiarizado con el anárquico entramado de calles que conforma "S'altra banda" (así llamamos los locales a la zona residencial de la orilla norte del puerto). A fin de solventar este problema, se han indicado coordenadas para dejar el coche y también para acceder a la misma orilla del mar, desde donde seguiremos un estrecho tramo rocoso de unos 70 metros de longitud, al final del cual hallaremos la tranquila cala donde se emplaza el cementerio.
La puerta del cementerio suele estar cerrada, aunque se pueden concertar visitas llamando al 609 30 53 12 y preguntando por el sr.Ferrara (yo no lo he intentado todavía). De todas formas el caché ESTÁ FUERA del recinto del cementerio.
Desde este punto se tienen unas vistas magníficas de la Illa de l'Hospital. Entre esta isla y donde nos encontramos pasan los cruceros y otras embarcaciones que atracan en el puerto de Mahón, así que no se puede nadar.
El caché no contiene bolígrafo, así que deberéis traer el vuestro. A la hora de buscar no es necesario ni pisar vegetación ni remover las piedras de ningún murete. Por favor, una vez habéis logueado meted la caja con cuidado en el sitio donde la encontrásteis.

Cache located in the surrondings of the "English Graveyard", a well-hidden cemetery on the northern shore of Port Mahon.
With this cache I'd like to do homage to the American sailors who came to Minorca, at the beginning of the 19th century, with the aim to fight against the Barbary pirates who had been raiding and seizing American merchant vessels in the Mediterranean Sea. Port Mahon was the base for the US Mediterranean Squadron over a period of 25 years, from 1815 to 1840. The American midshipmen were trained here until the opening of the US Naval Academy in Annapolis.
34 of these sailors along with some family members rest in peace in this cemetery by the shore. Despite the fact that the white walls of the graveyard can be easily spotted from the sea, reaching its grounds by land can take more time than expected to the casual visitor who is not familiar with the anarchic web of roads that make up "S'altra banda" ("The Other Side"), as the locals call the residential area located on the northern shore of Port Mahon. In order to work this problem out, I've indicated the coordinates for a parking space area as well as for the staircased passage that leads to sea level. At this point we'll have to follow a path that goes along a narrow and rocky land strecht by the sea, at the end of which we'll find the quiet cove where the graveyard is located.
The gate of the graveyard is usually locked, but it is possible to arrange for a visit by calling the following phone number and asking for Mr Ferrara: 609 30 53 12. I must admit that I haven't done it yet. Anyway, the cache is OUTSIDE the graveyard.
From this point we'll have some magnificent sights of Bloody Island (Illa de l'Hospital for the locals). Between this island and us ferries, boats and other ships sail away so that it is not allowed to swim in these waters.
There is no pen in the box so that you should bring yours. When searching for the cache you don't need to stump on vegetation nor to tear any wall apart. After logging, please return the box carefully to the same place where you found it.
