Geocache Description:

A lovely 5 mile scenic route which explores the parish of Westerkirk, walk, cycle or drive around the river Esk.

This set of geocaches is easily accesable by walking, cycling or car.  We suggest you park at the village hall should you choose to walk the route. All caches have parking nearby.  This 5 mile route which locals call 'Roon the Bridges'  is extremely picturesque located around the river Esk. This first cache is situated near Scotlands oldest working library.  Holding over 8000 books, from the 18th centuary to present, Westerkirk Library was founded in 1791 by the miners of Jamestown.  However when the mine closed in 1799-1800 the library moved to the village school, before later moving to where it stands today. Beside the library stands a memorial to the world class stone mason Thomas Telford who was born further up the valley. He left £1000 in his will to the library which grew to £2700 with interest when his estate was finally settled.

From village hall head back to main road junction and turn right.
