In September of the first year, James Harcourt (the Inspector General of Industrial Schools) requested another horse for ploughing, as initially there was only one horse available to cart water from the creek.
The site for the Industrial School had been selected because of its proximity to a creek. But with the creek at the foot of the hill & the wards at the top it was a 2 mile round trip for the horses to fetch water.
