[GN16] PROJECT A.P.E. - Mission Retour Aux Sources Letterbox Hybrid

Project APE est une série de caches placée en 2001 en conjonction avec le film La Planète des Singes.
20th Century Fox a travaillé conjointement avec Geocaching.com pour publier des caches dispersées dans diverses régions du monde afin de promouvoir le film. Ils concoivent un scénario parallèle à celui du film dans lequel ils souhaitent révéler la théorie de l'«Alternative Primate Evolution". Un site Web pour le Projet APE est créé en association avec les poseurs des caches. Certains accessoires du film sont initiallement placés dans les caches.

La série a été publiée sous un niveau élevé de sécurité. Les géocacheurs originaux, qui placent les caches le font de façon anonyme, sous la direction d'employés de Geocaching.com. Un nom et numéro de mission différents  sont attribués à chaque cache de la série (bien qu'il y ait deux missions numéro 10 ). En tout, treize caches avec une mission ainsi qu'un cache "Mission spéciale" sont créées. Les détails des caches sont donnés au goutte à goutte, d'abord simplement en donnant des indices quant à l'état ou le pays où elle se trouve, puis bien après, les coordonnées de la cache sont dévoilées. Les premiers trouveurs sont récompensés par un prix spécial.

Chacune des caches A.P.E. du projet initial contenait un accessoire qui a été utilisé dans le film, l'idée étant que le premier trouveur gagnerait les goodies. L'A.P.E. cache du Royaume-Uni (ainsi qu'une autre placée à New York) contenaient également des billets pour l'avant première du film. Les boîtes des caches étaient d'énormes boîtes de munitions, à l'origine destinées au transport de munitions de 81mm. Elles étaient marquées au pochoir avec le motif  A.P.E. Project, tout comme les logbooks. La taille de ces caches a probablement contribué à leur disparition, puisqu'elles étaient difficiles à bien cacher.

À ce jour, une seul des caches A.P.E. du projet initial est toujours active dans le monde (au Brésil), et bien que le concept du projet A.P.E. ait été abandonné par la 20th Century Fox, il a laissé derrière lui un héritage dans le monde du geocaching ; avec des géocacheurs parcourant des centaines, voire des milliers de kilomètres pour tenter de trouver, et d'obtenir l'une des plus rares icônes de cache sur leur profil.

Même si vous ne pouvez pas vous-même obtenir l'icône A.P.E. en trouvant cette cache, nous avons essayé de recréer l'expérience du PROJECT A.P.E du mieux que nous pouvions pour vous.

 

Project APE is a series of caches placed in 2001 in conjunction with the movie Planet of the Apes. 20th Century Fox worked in conjuction with Geocaching.com to release caches scattered in various parts of the world in order to promote the film. They devised a sub-plot associated with the film that was unrelated to the film itself, one that was intending to reveal an "Alternative Primate Evolution" theory. A Project APE website was created in association with the cache placements. Some props from the movie were placed in the caches initially.

 

The series was released under a tight level of security. The original individual cachers that placed the caches did so anonymously, under the direction of Geocaching.com officials. The caches were given Mission names, along with the number of the series (although there are two number 10's). In all, thirteen Mission caches plus a "Special Mission" cache were released. The details of the caches were released slowly, first by simply giving clues as to the state, then later the coordinates of the cache. The first finders were rewarded with a special prize.

 

Each of the original Project A.P.E. caches contained a prop which was used in the film, the idea being that the first finder would get the goodies. The UK cache (and one placed in New York) also contained tickets to the premiere of the movie. The cache boxes were huge ammo cans, originally intended for holding 81mm rounds of ammo. They were stencilled with the Project A.P.E. motif, as were the logbooks. The size of these caches probably contributed to their demise, being difficult to hide well.

 

To date only one of the original Project A.P.E. caches is still active worldwide (in Brazil), and although the Project A.P.E. concept has been abandoned by 20th Century Fox it has left behind a legacy in the geocaching world, with cachers travelling hundreds or even thousands of miles to find them, and obtain one of the rarest cache icons on their profile.
