Staley Cemetery was established around 1885 and was deeded for the Staley Cemetery by George W. Staley, in 1908. "Said acreage to be used for a grave yard and for no other purpose." Designated an Historic Texas Cemetery in 2001.
Earliest date of death recorded is that of Bernice Davis, daughter of W. T. and L. C. Davis, June 11, 1890. Also, the death of Ardis Laura (Roney) Greene, with the date of 1890 only on the marker. The interment of one of Brown County's most interesting pioneers, is that of Uncle William "Bill" C. Anderson. He was born February 7, 1840 in Cole County, Missouri; died in Brown County, November 1, 1927. "Uncle Bill" claimed in a 1924 interview, to be "Bloody Bill Anderson" a member of the famous Quantrell guerrillas. He settled in the Salt Creek community by 1863. The log house where he lived is still standing near the Brownwood Regional Airport.
