Geocache Description:

This is a bicycle-themed cache, in what we hope to be a series of bike themed caches on this section of bike path. As such, you are highly recommended to do these caches on a bike. For this cache, your bicycle may take on another use.

Part of the critical western spine needed to link the western suburbs into Footscray Central Activity District and beyond to the Melbourne CBD.

Rail project delivers on path

21 May 2014. Funding has been confirmed for the construction of an off-road bike path from Sunshine to West Footscray along the rail corridor.

The Regional Rail Link Authority (RRLA), which had previously agreed only to pay for the design of the path, has now committed $4.8M to building the entire project.

Their move is a response to calls from the cities of Brimbank and Maribyrnong, and from Bicycle Network’s for RRLA to establish the path as it remediates the massive works depot site, which is along the route of the path.

Bicycle Network’s highest priority for Metropolitan Melbourne has been to develop a cycling spine for the western suburbs, long starved of cycling infrastructure.

By constructing a 2.7k path along the Deer Park rail corridor between the Ring Road path and Sunshine, plus continuing along the rail corridor between Sunshine Station and Ashley St, this will provide an off road facility form Ardeer, connecting into the existing path all the way to West Footscray Station.

You can attempt this cache from several directions, although it's recommended that you come from Matthews Street, Sunshine as this has better parking than Ashley Street and a lovely children's playground in Tom O'Brien Park, Matthews Street, Sunshine.

Alternatively, this cache could be accessed via the redesigned Tottenham or Sunshine Railway stations.

You are looking for a small cache. This is not a child friendly, and will need an adult to access.
