The Series has been brought to you to highlight local country towns in the South of Victoria.

Wye River

European settlement at Wye River began in 1882, as a small farming village. It is now a popular tourist destination, with caravan parks and other accommodation. It has a patrolled beach, with a Surf Lifesaving Club and the Wye River pub is a local favourite. In recent years, Wye River has added whale-watching to the attractions.

The Otway rainforest comes right down to the water’s edge around here. Sadly, this very forest resulted in almost 100 properties being destroyed on Christmas Day 2015, when a fire swept down on the town, burning right down to the sand on the beach.
