Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. Solve the puzzle to find its actual location.

In the past few weeks, I saw the last two films to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, Birdman and Spotlight. It wasn't hard to notice they had something in common: Michael Keaton. It got me thinking: has anyone appeared in three straight Best Pictures? Even two in a row is pretty impressive. This cache title is sort of hopeful on your behalf, Michael.

It turns out that three actors appeared in three straight Best Pictures, but it was a long time ago:

Quite a few folks have acted in back-to-back Best Pictures, however, enough to make a puzzle about them. Here are some actors who have appeared in successive Best Pictures.

1. While he may be best known to younger audiences for "More Cowbell," this actor did the double with Annie Hall (1977) and The Deer Hunter (1978).
2. This versatile actor played Bert the cop in It's a Wonderful Life, but it's his double in You Can't Take It With You (1938) and Gone with the Wind (1939) that qualifies him for this puzzle.
3. (+1) Star of Gladiator (2000) and A Beautiful Mind (2001). 'Nuff said.
4. Husband of actor Elizabeth Marvel, he appeared in the two Best Pictures preceding Spotlight.
5. Arguably more famous for a radio role, that of Jack Benny's valet Rochester, his repeat was the same as #2 above.
6. With a small role in You Can't Take It With You (1938), this actor, who played Ethel Mertz's father on I Love Lucy, completed the double with his appearance in some minor film from 1939.
7. (+2) Bill Simmons's vote for the greatest living actor, she turned in Oscar-nominated acting performances in The Deer Hunter (1978) and Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), winning for the latter.
8. Though she may have been uncredited in both An American in Paris (1951) and The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), there's no doubt who takes the credit for playing Lois Lane on television throughout the 1950s.
9. Twenty-five years after appearing in Best Picture Around the World in 80 Days (1956), he did the double in Chariots of Fire (1981) and Gandhi (1982).
10. Appearing uncredited in FOUR different Best Pictures, including three in four years (1946-1949), he played Max Fields on television's The Lawless Years.
11. (+4) Although he played King Edward VIII in 2010's The King's Speech, he had a far less royal role in the previous year's The Hurt Locker.
12. The only actor to appear in both Argo (2012) and 12 Years a Slave (2013), he also appeared in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
13. In back-to-back Best Pictures in the early 1980s, he played a missionary: fleet-footed Eric Liddell and friend-of-Gandhi Rev. Charlie Andrews.
14. His skills as a stunt driver earned him roles in both Patton (1970) and The French Connection (1971).
15. Though this actor went by Charles Lynn early in his career, he had uncredited roles in All Quiet on the Western Front (1929/1930) and Cimarron (1930/1931).
