Wind mountain is a peculiarly symmetrical, cone-shaped peak on the north shore of the Columbia River. Whirlwinds blow in fury around this peak and a cloud 'hat' can often be seen on its top. Local lore suggests it may once have been a spirit quest site, where Native Americans would vision quest for a lifelong guardian spirit.
The above coordinates will lead you to a place with a view of Wind Mountain. 'X' marks the spot. Standing in the middle and sighting down the east leg of the 'X' your goal is to find the facial profile on the mountain. Local lore says this is the profile of a Native American man looking towards the heavens in the Southern skies. A jutting brow and large nose are the most prominent features. Depending on the angle of the sun, however, the face is sometimes easier to distinguish than others. This spot was pointed out to me (Dan) by my parents and grandparents on every trip past Wind Mountain, but until I was about 10 years old, my response was always the same: "I don't see it!"
To log this cache you must upload a photo of yourself and your GPS from this spot with Wind Mountain in the background. Tell us in your log how successful you were in finding the profile and give us the details. Also tell exactly what time you were there and upload a photo of the face, if possible. It will be interesting to see what this looks like at different times of the day.
This isn't a competition, please don't log a find until you can upload your GPS photo.
