Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a combined effort by Richmond and Hampton Roads geocachers to place geocaches along the Virginia Capitol Trail.

The Geology Dept was out evaluating the geologic condition of the trail and guess what we found! Nestled in a pile of asphalt chunks was a fake rock that looks a bit like asphalt!  The cache is about 2 steps off the trail toward the road.

An excerpt from the VCT Geology Dept's Guide to Geologic Humor: A dude was out paving his driveway and was using his donkey to haul the paving materials back and forth. He'd done a pretty good job of keeping the sides of the cart holding the heated asphalt insulated with towels and heavy blankets, keeping the donkey safe. But after hours of work, he let his guard down and some of the insulating material slipped. When the donkey's back leg touched the cart's hot metal, it bolted, overturning the cart and spilling the paving everywhere. Shortly after, the dude's wife came out to check on the progress and pointed to the messed up area. "How'd this happen?" she asked. The dude replied, "Wasn't me. It was the asphalt."A view of the pile of asphalt chunks and fake rock from the trail.
