Park at the entrance of the now closed Hartwoodhill Hospital. There is a barrier here at the main drive. Nice walk up here - (all buildings have been demolished) - approx 1/2 mile - great for duggles - relatively muggle free. Nice cycle too if you come from Shotts through the Nature Park at Dykehead. Hartwood train station is nearby if you don't drive. This is a sneaky magnetic cache and tweezers and a pen are required - Happy caching! :)
Hartwoodhill Hospital was built to accommodate additional patients from Lanark District Asylum at Hartwood Hospital. The complex of buildings was built on a new site closer to Shotts at Hartwood Hill from circa 1935, with James Lochhead as architect (Historic Scotland Listing notes). It was originally known as the Hill Hospital and Hartwoodhill Mental Colony. This hospital closed in 2011, There is a good walk from the Hospital site (now all demolished) through Shotts Nature Park which exits to Dykehead in Shotts.
Congratulations to Scotsbob on another FTF!
